[edit] Quest Text

You are practicing combat stances in your quarters when an enormous raven flies in through the window and lands on your bunk. It looks at you and opens its mouth. Instead of the expected squawk, a beam of blue light fires from the bird's beak. The ray stops inches from your face and coalesces into the shimmering image of Shindaan Guardian Del.

"Greetings Agent," the image salutes. "Prepare for incoming assignment."

Complete Treasures of the Abtu-Kahn - Chapter 1

[edit] Act 1 - Quoth the Raven, "Greetings Agent."

The image of Del shimmers in front of your face.

"With the arrival of the Abtu-Kahn, we have been on the lookout for strange activity. In the last two days, twenty seven people have gone missing in Beggar's Row, to the west of the Noble District. That is a rough area and disappearances are not uncommon. However, given recent events, we feel it is worth investigating." The image wavers slightly, as the Raven bites at something under its wing.

"Head to Beggar's Row and look for any kind of suspicious activity. Remember, as part of the D.E.A., you have total immunity. Use it wisely. This message will self destruct in thirty seconds."

The Raven gives what you could swear is a nervous look in your direction, then flies out the window. As you move to equip your armor and weapons, you hear a muffled 'Pop!' in the distance.

Beggar's Row is a dilapidated collection of buildings, shanties and open tents. True to its name, the narrow avenue is packed with bedraggled creatures of all shapes and sizes. The nature of the Phyrran population makes it difficult to distinguish the deformed from the alien, but you hand a gold piece to a creature that looks like an ancient possum, holding a brood of tiny pups to her ragged skirts.

As you make your way down the winding street, you notice a masked figure wearing deep red robes. They look far less abused than the other residents and they move with an assured grace that you instantly identify with combat training. The robed figure whispers something to an emaciated Elf, who gives a shrug and follows the figure into a nearby alley.

[edit] Objectives

Follow Them.

[edit] Act 2 - Sekim Defender Kel

The masked assailant lies on the ground, clutching her side and mewling. You lean down and untie the Elf, who jumps to his feet and scrambles away. As you turn back toward the downed assailant, she slashes at your face with a tiny curved dagger, then falls to the ground in a heap, a small feathered dart protruding from her neck.

A tall Abtu-Kahn wearing ornate leather armor steps from the shadow, holding a long, thin blowgun. He gives you a casual salute as the blowgun disappears into his gauntlet.

"Thank you for the assistance, Phyrran. The Zealots are skilled assassins. It is impressive to see a hairless Wetlander dispatch one so easily." The Kahn holds out a furry paw in greeting.

"I am Sekim Defender Kel."

You give the Kahn your name.

"It is a pleasure to meet you. Now, let's see what our friend here can tell us." Kel grabs the unconscious assailant, takes her face in his paws and whispers something into her ear. Her eyes pop open and she stares at Kel.

"Greetings, Zealot." Kel says with a menacing purr. "I had hoped that you and your foul order had stayed in Kehra." The assailant grins at him.

"We go where there are throats to cut, lips to scream, and nerves to feel pain. Coveyne's blinking eye sees here as well as-" Kel slaps the assailant.

"Don't speak his name. You pervert it as it passes over your tongue." Kel produces a tiny gold scarbis from somewhere in his armor.

"Now, you will tell us where to find your odious shrine." The downed Zealot laughs.

"I don't think that I will, Kel." A shadow passes over your head and two more masked figures drop from the sky.

[edit] Objectives

Defend Yourself.

[edit] Act 3 - The Zealots of Corveyne

Kel assists you in propping all three battered Zealots up against the alley wall. Kel once again produces the tiny Scarbis, holds it to his muzzle and whispers to it.

"I would ask you again where your temple is," he growls, "but that won't be necessary."

Kel releases the gold Scarbis, which flies to the Zealot that you defeated and lands on his nose. The Zealot goes cross-eyed staring at it and seems frozen in fear.

"Get it off of me..." he whispers. The Scarbis crawls up the side of the Zealot's snout, past his wide, tearing eye and skitters deep within his large, furry ear. The Zealot's eyes go blank and he stares at you without seeing. His tongue lolls in his muzzle and a rivulet of drool descends onto his robes. Kel stares at the Zealot impassively.

After a few minutes, the Scarbis buzzes out of the ear and flies back to Kel, who holds it up to his own. He nods with interest, as if the Scarbis is telling him a secret, then smiles a toothy Kahn smile and tucks the insect back into his armor.

"The Temple isn't far. Come, we must find it and shut it down before more of your people are taken."

You point to the subdued Zealots and ask what should be done with them.

"Not to worry," says Kel with a wink, and seven massive Kahn, clad in the same shining armor as Kel emerge from the shadows and set to binding the prostrate Zealots with thin golden cords.

"We can clean our own sandbox. Coming?" And with that, Kel springs off, back toward the street.

Follow him

[edit] Conclusion

Kel once again produces the tiny Scarbis and inserts it into the unfortunate Zealot's ear. When it returns to him, he grimaces.

"We have to go. Now."
