[edit] Intro

The Shadow Broadcaster is melting into a pool of black sludge.

"No you don't," growls Mau. He grabs the melting Shadow Broadcaster by the head and turns to Xolotl.

"May I borrow that fire?"

The Orzayan produces a brightly glowing wand, then hands the flaming staff to Mau.

"I'll be back in a minute with your information." Before you can say anything, the grinning, shadowy Kahn has dragged the melting Shadow off into the darkness. You stand there for several silent, uncomfortable minutes, punctuated only by an occasional, startling squawk from your companion. Eventually, Mau returns. He is covered in dripping black fluid and the Broadcaster is nowhere to be seen. When he speaks, he is out of breath.

"The Shadow Elementals. They came back. We're all in very deep trouble."

[edit] Act 1 - Hate is Enough

You ask Mau what the Shadow Elementals are.

"The basic elements. They make up the emotional landscape here. Wrath, Hate, Greed and Destruction. There are other, smaller ones too but those are the four prime elements. They haven't often taken form in the past. They have been content to whisper in our ears, to exercise subtle influence. Now they are trying to drag Shadow Phyrra into your world, using the dream world as a sort of staging area. Not as subtle."

You ask Mau if he knows where you can find the Shadow Elementals.

"They shouldn't be too hard to find. They radiate pure emotion. So, if you are looking for Hate, just follow your ever-growing sense of hate." He points at Xolotl, "so I guess that means it's hiding in this guy's face. Ha! Just kidding with you friend. We can track them down. But remember, these things are pure emotion, so things can get... weird around them."

[edit] Act 2 - Hate the One You're With

Defeating the Shadow Guard felt good. If the hateful grins now on both of your companions are any indication, they agree. How dare they smile. Do they think this is some kind of a game? Are they mocking you with those ugly smiles? They think you can't fight. They are laughing at the way you fought that guard. What do they know about combat anyway? You're the professional here. You should show them. Show them what it takes to be a Duelist. Put this weapon right through their smug little animal skulls and then taste what comes out because that will taste like victory, like success, like overcoming all obstacles, especially the obstacles presented by these grotesque little beasts.

As you draw your weapon, another group of Shadow Guards emerges from the shrine.

[edit] Act 3 - Mau's Untrustworthy Grin

You are panting, gripping your knees to keep yourself from hating your companions. Mau rushes toward the entrance of the shrine.

"We have to get to this thing before we end up killing each other. Quickly."

Inside, the shrine is a vast, dark chamber. In the center, a figure stands on a featureless pedestal. Its body is beyond normal dark, seeming to suck the very light out of its surroundings. Except for its eyes. Twin glowing orbs pierce the darkness of its face.

[edit] Conclusion

Mau lies dead at your feet. All at once you feel the hatred being drained out of you. You feel light headed and your vision dims. The last thing you see is a beam of dark energy flowing from your chest to the razor black teeth of Hate's open mouth as the Shadow Elemental grows in size.
