[edit] Intro

You are hovering in the dim twilight between the waking world and the world of dreams. In a burst of blue flame, Embergeist's leering face fills the space around you.

"Greetings. I am Embergeist, newly ordained High Priest of the Shadow Elements. Thanks to the brutal efficiency of my Warriors, Shadow Phyrra is entering the world of light as we speak. Upon waking, you will be greeted by emissaries from your new Masters. Feel free to resist. Pain and death are certainties for you now. I offer no mercy, but it will be nice to know who the troublemakers are right away, so that we can get to making bloody, screaming examples of you. Oh and to those Phyrrans who betrayed your people to assist us in our glorious destiny, know that your help is deeply appreciated. As such, it is with no small measure of regret that I say only those born of the Shadow can rule in the new order. I know that my predecessor promised you great things and all I can say is, things change."

[edit] Act 1 - A Dark Day Dawns

Your eyes snap open. You have awakened in your quarters, near the Phyrran Arena. Though you can see the sun rising outside your window, the sky is growing incongruently darker. You run to the window and look down, three stories, to the square below. Black portals are opening in the street, disgorging legions of Shadow Troopers. In the hallway outside your door, you can hear screams, crashing and rhythmic footsteps. After a moment, there is a loud bang on your door. You stand and ready your weapon. A second bang sends the door flying off of its hinges and you find yourself staring at a huge, armored Shadow Trooper.

[edit] Act 2 - Welcome Your New Masters

Even as the first trooper falls, reinforcements fill the doorway behind it, also armed and carrying the horrible black leashes. Without a thought, you leap backward, out of your window.

You slam into the stone ground below, and hear something in your leg snap. You feel no pain but, no stranger to Arena-born broken bones, know that it will be coming soon enough. You push yourself up onto your hands and knees and notice that the brown stone underneath you is turning black, as deep red ichor fills the cracks. All around you, people are screaming and attempting to flee as more Shadow Troopers emerge from black portals and sling their hideous leashes, which slash the air with lightning speed and a bone chilling whine, encircling necks with a loud cracks and strangled screams.

[edit] Act 3 - In the Heart of the Shadow

You crawl backward away from the square and into the darkness of a nearby alley. From your hiding place, you can see the square, which has been nearly subdued. Many lie dead on the ground, as Shadow Troopers march groups of bound and collared Phyrrans into the dark portals.

As the light continues to grow dim, Embergeist's visage fills the sky above Phyrra like some horrible ancient god. When he speaks, his voice fills your mind, sending all thoughts screaming away.

"Greetings. It is I again, your humble Master. By now, you should see that there is no hope of escape or retaliation. The bridges into the city have been destroyed, the docks burned. You are trapped here, in the heart of the Shadow. The stylish collars that so many of you are now sporting will guarantee obedience. If you don't have one yet, you will very soon. A new day is dawning. A day of glorious darkness..."

Distracted by Embergeist's voice in your head, you do not notice the Shadow Trooper approach, until the thick, warm collar is snapped around your throat.

[edit] Conclusion

QUEST COMPLETE!

Leaving the destroyed Trooper to rot, you rip the collar from your bloody throat. Only one thing is certain in your mind. Embergiest and the other Shadows will die for this. And you know just the person to help you. As Phyrra falls into shadow, you limp down the alley, toward Tomb Town.
