[edit] What Are Ladders?

Ladders are a system to rank players. The ladder system was implemented after much criticism relating to players selectively dueling to artificially inflate their Win/Loss ratio in order to get a place on the once coveted Top Duelists list. The Ladder system works by randomly assigning you opponents who have an "Active" status and have a similar Rating as yourself. If you win the Ladder challenge then you will receive a number of Ladder points and your opponent loses an equal number of Ladder points. A victory against a much higher ranked player results in a greater number of Ladder points and vise-versa.

[edit] Rewards

A snapshot is taken of the Ladder every thursday and duelists who fought 10 or more ladder duels since the last snapshot are ranked by rating. The ranking ends after a certain number of duelists. The exact number differs per ladder. The ranked players receive a weekly rewards of Tokens, the size of which depends of the position on the ladder. The tokens are rewarded every Friday, not directly after the ranking is complete. Those residing in the Top 5 ranking of the Top Duelists Ladder receive the prestige of being placed on the Duels Homepage as the Top 5 Duelists in the game.

In addition, you also receive individual rewards for each Ladder challenge, just as would with a normal Challenge. Ladder challenges in general are Actions only (except for the Classic Ladder).

[edit] Forfeits / Rejecting Challenges

In order to make the Ladder system fair and prevent issues of selective dueling, when a challenge is received you have 24 hours in order to respond to the challenge. If you do not respond it is assumed you have forfeited the duel and therefore will be treated as a loss, with your Rating deducted accordingly. It is not possible to reject a challenge.

[edit] Ladder Status

There are two statuses in the current Duels Ladder system:

  1. Active - Participating in the Ladder.
  2. Inactive - Not participating in the Ladder.

Whilst it is necessary to make 10 duels each week in order to be Ranked and therefore receive your weekly Token reward, the majority of players choose to only duel 10 times and then change their status to "Inactive".

[edit] Current Ladders

There are currently 17 different Ladders, four of which are for Elite Duelists (Level 45) only. The Elite Duelists Ladder serves to determine the best players in the game. It also served to highlight game imbalances and inequalities between skills. The other Elite Duelists ladders include:

  • Vendor - Players can only use equipment from the vendor set.
  • Epic - Players can only use Epic (purple) equipment or lower (i.e., no Legendaries or Artifacts).
  • Classic - no actions are allowed.

There are also Ladders for Top Duelists (40-44), Gladiator Veterans (35-39), Gladiators (30-34), Challenger Veterans (25-29) and Challengers (20-24). These Ladders have no restrictions on equipment or actions (except for challengers, who cannot use actions yet and Top Duelists who have the same ladders as Elite Duelists). Note that if you level up beyond the level range for a particular Ladder, all of your pending challenges will be double-forfeited and you will be removed from the ladder(i.e., the challenges are removed and neither you nor your opponent get a win or loss). If you already have 10 Ladder duels for the week, you will still be ranked and receive your reward for the week.

Recently additional ladders have been added for each class as well as a 'test' ladder.
