Duration indicates how long an Ability remains in effect. Duration comes in four flavors. Listed here in increasing order of permanence:
Instant Skills happen immediately when activated and are finished; if they continue at all, it will most likely be because it is generating a Prerequisite. Most Openers are Instant.
Constant Skills remain in effect until canceled. Constant Skills do not Stack, instead restarting Duration if used again.
Persistent duration indicates an Ability that continues to help while other Abilities are in use. Most Abilities that Stack are of necessity Persistent. Persistent Abilities may last for a set number of Turns or for the entire Round, but will not last through an entire Duel.
Passive Skills and Spells remain in effect for the entire Duel and cannot be canceled. Skills that discount Power or permanently affect game mechanics outside of the combat proper are Passive. Other Abilities may negate the benefits of Passive effects, but they cannot ever be turned off; when the negating Ability's duration ends, the effects of a Passive Skill remain--and will also be there in future Duels.
Specializations are examples of Passive Skills.
