[edit] Quest Text

Your eyes snap open. You are once again looking at the council chamber of the Archons. The council is deep in discussion and has not noticed your return. Though you feel that you were gone for months, possibly years, it appears that you were missing for mere seconds.

Ahmett is pacing the room, gesturing emphatically. "The Zealots and the Reanimated, while terrible, are only a distraction from the real threat. Those creatures, whatever they were, have a direct line to our world. Eventually, they will rebuild the generators and they will come... "

As Ahmett paces, you survey the rest of the room, glad to be, once again, in control of your faculties. You notice that, while you were gone, the number of Abtu-Kahn attendants in the room has increased. They are standing around the room's perimeter and don't appear to be working. There is something about the way that they are standing, staring straight ahead, that sets you on edge.

You turn your head and look directly at the servant standing nearest to you. She is looking straight ahead, eyes unfocused and, if she notices you staring, gives no indication. Then you notice the stubbly green protrusions dotting the skin around her eyes and mouth. A quick scan of the room reveals similar blemishes on all of the collected servants.

You step forward and attempt to get the attention of the collected Archons, but they are too wrapped up in their discussion of Ahmett's voyage beyond the gate to notice.

All at once, the servants' eyes blink and they take a step forward. The uniform slap of twenty boot soles catches the council's attention. A second synchronized footfall cuts Ahmett off in mid-sentence and he turns to look. The collected servants, still staring straight ahead, blank expressions on their faces, take another step.

With your help, the Shindaan seem to be turning the tide, though many of them lay on the ground, moaning in agony. Then you notice it; none of the Shindaan have been killed by the servants, only graced with deep, bleeding wounds. This observation is interruped by a group of Kahn Sekim Defenders. They barge into the room, weapons drawn. At once, but without breaking combat, the remaining servants turn and look at the Sekim regiment, who look at each other with an expression of confusion, tinged with fear. Then, all at once, the Defenders stand up perfectly erect, their eyes going blank, and they move in to attack the Shindaan.

The final traitorous Sekim has been downed. You pause for a moment and survey the destroyed council chamber. Ahmett stands with his back to the room, while Kuth-Eh-Ket is nowhere to be seen. A handful of still-standing Shindaan are inspecting their wounded comrades, while Kel appears to be investigating the downed Sekim.

You lean over to catch your breath and notice something that stops your heart and makes you break into a cold sweat. A wounded Shindaan lies on the ground, staring at the ceiling with dead eyes and no expression on his face. You can see his chest moving up and down with rythmic breathing. His right arm has a long, jagged gash running the length of it and, inside the wound, those nasty green nubs are forming right before your eyes. Before you can say anything, the wounded Shindaan stand in unison and, without a sound, attack.

[edit] Conclusion

Before you have a moment to catch your breath, Ahmett turns to the room. His face is covered in the green infection. When he speaks, his voice has taken on a flat quality, completely lacking in reverberation.

"The vessels will cease resistance and submit to its will."
