[edit] Quest Text

As black smoke pours from the entrance to the former Zealot temple, you drag Kel's limp form up the entrance stairway and into the deep mud and mire of Beggar's Row. You reach into your D.E.A. Field Kit and remove a faintly humming gold necklace, with a snake-shaped blue stone talisman connected to the end.

You place the necklace around Kel's thick, furry neck and hold the snake between your palms. You feel the cold stone come to life, with a sickening wiggle, in your palm. Your vision goes blurry, your stomach churns and everything fades to white.

[edit] Act 1 - In the House of Healing

You open your eyes and find yourself staring at the white stone wall of the House of Healing. Around you, the narrow brightly lit hallways reverberate with the sounds of sickness and the cure: hushed voices, clanking metal and the occasional terrified scream.

Kel's eyes snap open and he stares straight at the ceiling. You notice tiny green lumps raised in the dark skin around his eyes. With a hum, a pair of Faeriestripers float into the air above Kel's face, red wings flapping.

"Excuse me," they giggle as they spin gossamer sheets, spider-like, from their mouths, wrap Kel in them and, despite their diminutive size, lift him easily into the air and away down the hall.

You follow the tiny, giggling sprites down the narrow hall, past the blue snake insignia of the Healer's Guild. Doors on either side open into rooms occupied by poor souls suffering from all manner of magical, other-worldly and everyday maladies. Through one door you see a young woman, eyes open wide and tearing as a fir tree grows from her mouth. Through another, you see a man tied to a bed, his head fading in and out of existence; each time it returns, the head is in a different state, first wet, then sunburned, then covered in snow. Through another door, you see an old woman, crying silently over a little boy, broken arm in a sling.

You come to the end of the hallway and are greeted by an Elven Doctor in a bloodstained smock. He blinks at you through thick lenses and fingers the knives strapped to his chest.

"You bring in that Kahn?" He motions to Kel with a wave of his fingers as his body disappears around a corner, into the deeper reaches of the hospice.

"What's wrong with him - WAIT!" The Doctor places a hand on your chest, "don't tell me. I want to be surprised. Haven't had a chance to dig into one of those kitties yet..."

[edit] Act 2 - Side Effects

As the attacking corpse falls to the ground, the Doctor runs through the door, trips over the body and goes sprawling onto the white stone floor, then sits up and regards corpse.

"So, yeah. They all just went crazy. We should probably get out of here."

"Take me with you." As the corpse on the bed speaks, the Doctor squeaks and brandishes one of his many surgical blades.

"He's one of them. He's crazy!" The Corpse on the bed regards the Doctor with a casual eye.

"Do I look crazy? I don't know what has gotten into the other ones. I just want to get out of here, figure out what did this me and maybe share the experience of dying with them. By the way, Doctor, you didn't do this to me, did you?" The Doctor shakes his head, eyes wide.

"Good. Just checking. So, mind if I come along?" You shrug and, with apparently little effort, the Corpse raises his arms, snapping his bonds and stands up. The corpse offers you his hand.

"My name is Edgar Crawls." You take his hand, it feels like a cold, uncooked sausage, and introduce yourself.

"Doctor Fizroy." Comes a near-squeak from the floor.

From the hallway, you can hear angry voices, growling in a conspiratorial tone. The sound dies down and, after a moment of silence, a single, watery voice yells out.

"We know that there is living flesh in there. Release the flesh and you are free to leave, brother." "Actually..." The Doctor yells, "We're all dead in here... The... Everything hurts and I can't taste food... Ow?" Edgar shakes his head and Fizroy shrugs.

Another one of the walking corpses shambles toward the door.

[edit] Act 3 - Kilgar

As the last reanimated corpse falls to the ground, another steps through the rubble and smoke of the now demolished doorway. He steps into the room slowly, in a pair of polished leather boots. He lacks the crazed, desperate look that the other corpses had shared. He looks at you with eyes that are truly inhuman; regards you and then the Doctor, as a snake would a mouse. Those dead, alien eyes send a chill down your spine.

"You're so beautiful," he coos, voice deep and gurgling as though his throat were filled will gelatin.

"So full of life. Your skin glows, your eyes shine, and you smell like coursing, healthy blood."

[edit] Objectives

[edit] Conclusion

Kilgar falls to the ground in a smoking heap. You step over the body and the defeated Patchwork Horror twitches once more. You make your way out of the House of Healing as a team of Shindaan Guardians enter.
