Allies and Rivals

On the profile page of each avatar are options to name that avatar to your list of allies or rivals.

At this point, allies and rivals are merely social networking tools; a simple way of reaching people you enjoy trading or sparring with. Allies/Rivals can easily be great ways to level up or train if you become one with another duelist who accepts challenges to anyone. That is because when you add a person to your allies or rivals list, when you challenge or skirmish them, you'll get more exp. However, you can not add any NPC to your rival or allies list. If you are on the lookout for duelists like these, you can easily win 15 or more challenges a day off them. If you are in the Duels chat, you will receive system messages keeping you up to date on your allies activities. There is no additional in-game functionality that depends on whether someone is your ally or rival.
