[edit] Overview
Actions were introduced as a way to help even the battle field and to promote strategy in the arena. You have to reach at level 25 to use actions. Actions act like individual spells that can be played on a per turn basis. There are general actions available to all High Paths and each High Path also contains their own set of unique Actions which only they can use. Each action has a different effect and actions are grouped in tiers and limited by their cooldown periods. These actions can be purchased for in game gold from the Actions Shop. It is possible to sell Actions back to the Action Shop.
[edit] August 2008 change
As of August 2008, actions became a one time purchase. This change may be made permanent in the future. And you also have the ability to 'Sell back' your actions.
[edit] Action list
The below link lists all the available actions in the world of duels.
[edit] Quick steps to using Actions
[edit] First step: Buy Actions
In order to use actions, you must be level 25 and have purchased actions from the Actions Shop. To do this, click the Actions link
in the left hand navigation bar located right under the Items link. This will lead to the Actions Shop. The link will automatically load the High Path's actions (e.g., Druids will be taken to Druid Action Page) if the avatar has chosen a High Path. Every path has access to "General" actions which can be accessed by clicking the small box with a picture of a stone on it under the word general.
Currently you need only one instance of an action to use it repeatedly, so it is advised to use the Buy (one of each) button. Clicking on the action will bring up that Action's page, where you can see the details of that action. Also you can make an individual purchase of that action from there. If you are a player who has left the world of duels for some time, and still have bulk amounts of different actions, you can use the Sell button to get your money back from them. This will sell all of your actions, both general and high path ones.
[edit] Second Step: Create an Action Set
The Action Set Manager is accessed by the Action Set link in the left hand navigation bar located under the avatar headshot and to the right of the Loadouts link.
Once inside the Action Set Manager Action Sets can be constructed. To do so, simply left click and drag an action into a turn slot. When making an Action Set, it's important to ensure cooldowns do not conflict with each other. For example, two completely different actions with the same color will not be able to used within that cool down period. The cooldown period is displayed by hovering the mouse over the action's icon or by looking at the colored glow surrounding the icon and can be estimated by using the following chart:
Tier 1 (Grey) : 0 turn cooldown
Tier 2 (Yellow) : 1 turn cooldown
Tier 3 (Green) : 2 turn cooldown
Tier 4 (Blue) : 3 turn cooldown
Tier 5 (Purple) : 4 turn cooldown
Tier 6 (Orange) : 5 turn cooldown
Tier 7 (Red) : 6 turn cooldown*
An easy check is to click and drag the action over the empty slots. The slots that are available for that action to fit in will be highlighted in yellow. Simply place ten actions in the slots to make a full set or less for a more economical version. Once the Action Set is created, it must be saved by clicking the Save button above the third slot. A prompt will be issued to name the Action Set to give it a useful name. Its important to organize proper action sets to deal with various opponents so as to make your character as versatile as possible. For e.g. an action set that uses a lot of concentration can be named 'against dodge' so its easy to refer and use it as quickly as possible. (Needed in tournaments as each round consists of only 5 minutes) With action sets, you will want to plan and place your actions as strategically as possible. For example, your action sets will sometimes consist of offensive actions, or defensive actions, depending on who you are challenging. You do not have to fill in all ten action slots, but in most cases it would be advisable.
- tier 7 actions are only available on occasion (i.e. X-mas = Fruitcake, Mistletoe, Reindeer Attack!, Snowball and Summon Senter )
[edit] Third Step: Duel with Actions
Now, you're ready to begin action dueling. In order to action duel, you will need to challenge someone and select one of the various action sets you've created. You can select them at the bottom of the challenge screen. Now, for a proper action duel and the rewards associated with it, both duelists need to use an action set. If you challenge someone with actions and they neglect to use an action set, you'll probably win, but you'll only receive the rewards for a regular, non-action duel.
However, any actions that are not used in the duel, because the duel ended before the action could be used, will be lost.
The way to know if someone is sending you an action duel is to check the "Challenges" tab, where an icon in front of the "Accept" button displays the type proposed. You can also verify the top of the accepted challenge screen. If it is an action duel, a notification will appear on the top of the screen and you can decide whether or not you want to use actions. Remember, you must also use an action set to get the extra rewards an action duel gives.
If the challenger does not use actions, neither can you. That way the challenger isn't tricked by the opponent suddenly using unexpected actions on them.
A new type of battle started to evolve within this section: "1g Action". Basically, players will send a challenge for a battle, including a message that can be seen right over the notification to choose your Actions. The personalized comments are asking the player to use only one of the low level Actions, so that the duel will be fair and both sides will receive the bonuses rewarded for these special battles. 1G action actually terms an action worth 1 gold and 1 action terms any action from any tier. However its prudent to read comments about the person your going to challenge and their origin as well to see how they take the 1g action. It is of no use whining afterward when someone dishonors your request since they are by no means bound to it and rivalries have been expanding due to this phenomenon.
[edit] Action Sets
Several Actions can be strung together to act like a predefined battle plan called an Action Set. There is a maximum of 10 Actions per Action Set. The Action Set Manager is used to create an Action Set and is accessed by clicking on the "Action Sets" link on the left side navigation bar under the avatar's headshot. Note that while there is a maximum of 10 actions per Action Set, there is currently only a minimum of 1.
Many Action Sets can be created. Many players choose different naming conventions for their Action Sets including using names based on what the Action Set does, which loadout that Action Set goes with, or which opponent strategy the Action Set is to be used against.
When using actions, try to make sets that enable you to attack your opponent more often or cause more damage per attack.
[edit] Turn Structure
Each individual Action in an Action Set is set to be played on the given turn, marked by the numbered slots in the Action Set Manager. While only one action can be played on any given turn, they may have residual effects that last for many turns. How often any one action can be played within one Action Set is determined by that action's Cooldown period. To place an action on a turn slot, click and drag the action from the available inventory of actions or double click it.
[edit] Dueling with Action Sets
Once Action Sets are created they're ready for use within Action Challenges. On the main Challenge page, whether issuing an Action Challenge or accepting an Action Challenge, the entire list of available Action Sets will be listed after the loadout and opener selection areas. The Challenge page will not let one choose an Action Set that is no longer available. This is usually because one or more of the individual actions within that action set are no longer in inventory and more must be purchased. If you use action sets frequently, it is a good idea to keep a good stock of actions so you don't always have to be buying more.
For non-Action Challenges, Action Sets will not appear on the Challenge screen at all.
[edit] Actions in Tournaments
Even if your using actions sparingly in your normal duels, you should become very familiar with them before attempting tournaments at level 25 or higher. It can be a rather traumatic event to step into a tourney and realize that the other person is able to use actions even if you aren't using any.
